Peter Pan (A Stepping Stone Book(TM))

Considered a masterpiece since its first appearance on stage in 1904, Peter Pan is J. M. Barrie’s most famous work and arguably the greatest of all children’s stories. While it is a wonderful fantasy for the young, Peter Pan, particularly in the novel form Barrie published in 1911, says something important to all of us. Here “the boy who wouldn’t grow up” and his adventures with Wendy and the lost boys in the Neverland evoke a deep emotional response as they give form to our feelings about parents, boys and girls, the unknown, freedom, and responsibility. Humorous, satiric, filled with suspenseful cliff-hangers and bittersweet truths, Peter Pan works an indisputable magic on readers of all ages, making it a true classic of imaginative literature.

From the Paperback edition.

i am a 11 year old girl and I read this wonderful book. I enjoyed it very much but only recomend it for ages 10+. I cried at the end of happiness. A very deep book for children and much more education than most children books. It was also more touching and emotional . most books, even good books are not as worth buying as this one. I hope you have found this review useful and I would very highly recommend this book.

When i first got this book, I wasn't sure if I would like or not, sense I thought of it as nothing more than a child's story. Man, was I wrong. There is a lot of fantasy in it, for sure, but a lot of the things in it would only make sense to older readers. J.M. Barrie was an incredible author, no doubt about it. When he wrote about things that were totally not and could not be reality, it seemed as if that very thing could be a reality someway. He takes you to another land, and in a way, you can really feel like your flying around Wendy's room, and going to Neverland, itself!
I haven't been able to put this down. I'm sure you'll love it, as well.
I totally recommend this book!

I can definitely see why Peter Pan is often considered a cunning devil; he's like a force of nature. The book is contained in it's entirety, but the images are not included and it took me a while to figure out that there were supposed to be images near what seemed like random captions strewn throughout.

I have several copies of Peter Pan, one of my favorite books, and was so happy to find this edition with Trina Schart Hyman's wonderful illustrations. If all you know is the Disney version, and/or one or more of the many movies and edited books for young children, you owe it to yourself to read the original book (after the play) by J.M. Barrie. Sometimes I suspect he wrote the story more for grown-ups than for children. "...the years came and went without bringing the careless boy; and when they met again Wendy was a married woman, and Peter was no more than a little dust in the box in which she had kept her toys. Wendy was grown up. You need not be sorry for her. She was one of the kind that likes to grow up. In the end she grew up of her own free will a day quicker than other girls."

The Calla Edition of "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" is a very beautiful volume! The format is the same as a Folio Society volume of this title that was published some years ago but is now unavailable. The illustrations by Arthur Rackham are wonderful. Buy this book as a keepsake volume for a child you love; they will grow to love it even more as they grow up, and it will be something that they, in turn, will share with their own children in years to come.
