作者简介

John Burningham is one of the most prestigious and well-loved illustrators working in the children's book field today. Trained at the Central School of Art, his first picture book, Borka was published in 1963. He has won the Kate Greenaway Award twice for Borka and Mr Gumpy's Outing, and has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning 50 years.

Come away from the Water is a cute book that easily keeps my boys entertained. I will be checking into other books by the same author.

A must read. This picture book can teach any writer or art director about the synergistic relationship between words and images.

I didn't care for the structure of this book. The child uses the imagination to see that on one side of the page, the parents are in their own world, while Shirley creates her own. It wasn't easy for me to read to the kids and I had to explain what was going on after I figured it out. Too much work.

An enchanting look at what goes on in a young girl's imagination during a perfectly ordinary trip to the beach with her parents. The story is in the pictures rather than in the text, which puts the young readers in charge of the story. A delightful book!
