Uncommon Sense, Common Nonsense: Why Some Organisations Consistently Outperform Others |
This is for managers who know that their organizations are stuck in a mindset that thrives on fashionable business theories that are no more than folk wisdom, and whose so-called strategies are little more than banal wish lists.
It puts forward the notion that the application of uncommon sensethinking or acting differently from other organizations in a way that makes unusual senseis the secret to competitive success.

There aren't many books these days that I take notes from or share with my senior managers and directors. This is one of them. Funnily enough it feels more like commonsense that we are returning to rather than anything ground breaking and that makes it all the more powerful. When, how and why did we lose our way? From the book...
We need the...
Courage and confidence to apply what we already know;
Chance to make sense of our unique experiences;
Right to question assumptions and challenge dogma;
Obligation to honour and engage with the voices of dissent;
Curiosity to explore and experiment with alternative options;
Maturity to exercise judgement;
Courage to live closer to the edge of chaos and emergence;
Self-discipline to do fewer and braver things;
Wisdom to live less frenetically and more reflectively;
Enlightenment to take responsibility for our own choices.
This is definitely a collection of concepts worth immersing yourself in. You don't have to agree with everything (I agreed with almost everything) but the authors have delivered a pathway of discovery that challenges and enlightens much of which many of us hold dear. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who works in an organisation of any type trying to break the shackles of conformity to enable outstanding performance. You will not be disappointed. There is real gold in here!
A book that gives not 'cut and dried' cookie cutter solution but proven valuable tools for thinking about business management.
Basically a compendium of the best in management research. By turns thought provoking, inspirational, surprising and sometimes maddening.
Deserves a position next to my dog-eared copies of Drucker.
What a read!
Goddard and Eccles have done something wonderful - they have brought together all those wonderful questions we are supposed to ask when we are in the office, but only come to us on those famous Sunday mornings under the shower. It is inspiring and fresh and well packaged: I loved the short chapter structure - it always give you the chance and joy to do one more.
If you are looking for more exciting board room conversations, let Goddard and Eccles take you by the hand and share this book with your colleagues.
This book is for those who had strong believe in some principle or something(old). It will help you defrost your believe then make you to a questioner in what you doing.
That make you possible to receive other-thinks(new) to blend in and refreeze it in your believe again.
But.. Those who have no idea with one or more principle, no principle, I think it will make you to a complicated situation in your mind.
This is a good book to make a good change.
