Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve |
Osborne doesn't challenge readers overmuch (including the constant restatement of plot elements, perhaps worried that kids might otherwise forget or lose interest) and many parts of the story barely convince (like Teddy's "period" dialogue, e.g., "'Tis cool indeed"), but fans of the Magic Tree House will no doubt love another installment. (Ages 6 to 9) --Paul Hughes
Mary Pope Osborne is the author of many novels, picture books, story collections, nonfiction books, and chapter books—including all of the Magic Tree House books, which have been translated into numerous languages around the world. She works with her husband, Will, and her sister, Natalie, on the nonfiction companion series, Magic Tree House Research Guides.
Mary lives in Connecticut with Will and their three Norfolk terriers, Joey, Mr. Bezo, and Little Bear.
Here's what she has to say about writing for children: "I'm one of those very lucky people who absolutely loves what they do for a living. There is no career better suited to my eccentricities, strengths, and passions than that of a children's book author."
