The classroom should be properly controlled by a teacher to create a productive learning environment. Managing unruly behavior is one of the most difficult, frustrating, and even frightening parts of being a teacher, even more so when it comes to coping with juvenile delinquents. Honestly, it is not easy to prevent severe problems with student behavior while solutions are not always successful.
There are a variety of disruptive behaviors caused by some students in the classroom. Managing chronically disruptive students is key to a smooth learning experience; however, one or two such students can rob an entire class of opportunities to learn. There is nothing wrong with a “chatterbox”, or a “class clown” who could be fun in the classroom and would not disrupt the class. Generally, schools only have severe problems with student behavior characteristic of juvenile delinquency in the classroom. At their worst, students commit crimes through acts of theft, assault and vandalism; and as a result, students who want to learn to have to come to school are full of fear that they will be bullied, shaken down for money, or terrorized in other ways. Those juvenile delinquents who build themselves up by tearing others down are the main causes of the problems in the classroom.
The reality is that teachers face such seriously disruptive students regularly, and they need strategies to “put out fires,” so to speak. Most experts say that teachers must stay calm and address the disruption individually, directly and immediately. It is important to remember that if the disruption causes serious concern for personal safety, then do not hesitate to ask the faculty to call police in order to have a dangerously disruptive student removed from class. With disruptive students who are juvenile delinquents, no behavior management strategy is going to work all of the time, but some are more effective than others. None of those strategies recommended by experts will turn a juvenile delinquent into an angel, but they will provide a much better chance for teachers to complete the day’s lessons. The golden rule of dealing with disruptive behaviors is never to do anything that will make the situation worse.
In conclusion, regardless of the causes of dangerously disruptive behaviors, there are strategies that are not fool-proof. Being a teacher in the classroom with juvenile delinquents is the worst scene. Schools should stop letting such disruptive students steal everyone else’s education.
