Money is the most motivating factor that people work. Given the choice, most individuals would work harder in order to get better paid and faster promoted, without particularly being enthusiastic about the company’s group discussions that have little to do with overall productivity.
Doing more extra work or assignments to boost productivity is a practical way to earn extra money or other advantages that people get, in addition to their salary from their employers. Everybody, especially the boss or supervisor, knows who the hard workers are and who work overtime in every business. The hardest workers are always paid more for the extra hours that they work, and simultaneously they are promoted faster, all because they are productive. That is to say, they work all the time they work and do not waste time in the workplace. For example, they do not play on the computer all day, make personal phone calls, read the newspaper, or chat about the latest football game or television program. As a comparison, the top people with a workaholic mentality in every field work more hours, while the average person today works at less than 50 percent of capacity, which is far, far below their potential. In view of these observations, it is only fair that those employees who are able to improve their performance by working harder should be paid for what they are worth.
Interestingly, although most workaholic employees seek to improve performance, they seem to have both positive and negative attitudes toward workplace group discussions. On the positive side, conducting this type of meeting can give company managers better insight into what their employees like and dislike about the company. A successful focus group discussion is one that gives employees full freedom to openly and honestly discuss their feelings about the organization they work for and about how to increase productivity. For instance, if a company is interested in measuring how employees feel about salaries, questions should be focused on opportunities for raises and promotions in recognition of the efforts made by individuals. On the negative side, poor group discussions open the door for waste and frustrations. Unfortunately, such meetings tend to resemble a swirl of opposing ideas and opinions which do not contribute to productivity. Having both pros and cons in mind, employees are not interested in participating more actively or contributing their ideas more frequently in the group discussions.
In conclusion, people need to improve performance in the workplace in order to earn more money and to be promoted. For that matter, going extra mile is the best thing to do, without having to actively taking part in the company’s group discussions that often lead to nowhere.
