It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sports or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to be a good sports person or a musician.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Some people, such as musicians, artists and sports persons, are born with talents; and others are not. Can hard work be a substitute for talent? Can any child be taught to be the greatest at something through hard work?
On the one hand, some people think that there is no substitute for talent, and hard work is nothing without talent. Indeed, one would rather have a great deal of talent and a little work than have a great deal of work and a little talent. With a certain talent at something specific, one can do easily what is difficult for others. In contrast, without talent, one has to work very hard against odds to do well. One who is talented touches it once in a while and can do much better than many others. That said, one’s talent must be fully used, otherwise an unused talent has no advantage over someone who has no talent at all. If one has a talent and cannot use it, one has failed. Or, if one has a talent, and can use only half of it, one has partly failed. Only if one has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it, one has gloriously succeeded and won a triumph that few others know.
On the other hand, it is argued by other people that hard work beats talent if talent does not work. Nothing is more inspiring than one with a little talent and a strong desire eventually becomes a champion by way of hard work. One must have an extraordinary desire to succeed, even if one has an ordinary talent. There is no such thing as a great talent without a strong desire in the first place because talent is never static but is always growing or dying. An unused talent is dying without a strong desire to succeed, and that is where hard work can beat talent. It is true that one who is talented and motivated is like one who has “wings”; nevertheless, it is also true that “practice makes perfect,” which implies that good training is as important as talent.
To conclude, some individuals with great talents are more likely to achieve greatness than others who are not born with the same levels of talents. However, in many cases, hard work plus a strong desire could be a substitute for talents to a certain extent. Not all musicians, artists and sports persons are born with talents.
