>The development of modern technology has made people's life more complex, so people should choose to have a simple and easy life without using technology. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience to support your opinion.
Example Writing (Rewritten by Jeenn Lee Hsieh):
Modern technology roughly cuts two sides with people's daily life. To most those who enjoy the benefits of modern technology, there is no better time to be alive than now; to some others, however, life has become increasingly complex and stressful. Hoping for the best, new devices like computers and robots would be our slaves forever; preparing for the worst, such technological machines would eventually become our masters.
On the one hand, we pretend to know that modern technology ought to have been designed to be the slaves of human beings. In short, we are masters of our own inventions. Nowadays, "intelligent" machines like robots are widely applied to take the place of human beings who use them to do many useful jobs, although making people jobless. To no small an extent, today's technology benefits people, changing the way they live and the way they work, apparently for the better. As a consequence, life becomes more enjoyable, with all the conveniences and comforts that technology has to offer. It is as if the 21st century could be the best of time.
On the other hand, it could be the worst time as life becomes more complex and some people feel less happy and more stressful. Who knows that human beings would not be slaved by technological machines in the long run, inevitably making human beings victims of their own success? Understandably, given the choice, some would like to have a simple and easy life without the "dominating" technology, much of which is not born to meet the primary human needs. Among other negative effects, face-to-face human relationships are being destroyed emotionally. Unfortunately, it appears sometimes that machines act like humans and humans act like machines, and the simple and easy way of life that used to be is fading away, never to return.
In conclusion, it is everybody's guess whether people's over-involvement with modern technology might backfire. To most people, all technological machines, being too good to be true, seem to have been gifts sent from heaven. But to some others, the "unnecessary evils" could have come from hell.
