Essay Topic: Changes in the 21st Century

Essay Question:
If you were given to change, what changes you would implement in the 21st century to make our world a better living place? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience to support your opinion.
Example Writing (Jeenn Lee Hsieh):
Our damaged planet needs mending in this new century, before it is too late. For too long we were blinded by the positive side of modern technology and ignored the slowly emerging dark side that is haunting Nature. Among the changes we should implement are correcting the negative effects and avoiding further harming the fauna and flora on the earth.
One mission is to make our earth clean in development and green in environment. After more than 150 years of technological development, it is now clear that we are victims of our own success, drowning in our own garbage. We want to clean up the world and get rid of drawbacks brought about by economic progress. Such change will depend on effective actions made possible by international sectors joining forces to reduce the "greenhouse effects" that cause the climate to change. Of course, the responsibility of this change lies with us in the coming decades, and the fortunes of many nations will rely on this change. At the same time, we ought to control today's excessive consumerism because Nature may provide our need but cannot meet our greed.
If we were given to change, equally urgent is another mission to protect the wildlife, returning our world to its ecological and human equilibrium. This change can happen if we want it to happen. For example, by law we must ban illegal logging because deforestation is destroying the lung of our planet. Also, we are supposed to prohibit endangered wild animals from being killed off. Measures like these are meant to call for restoration of environmental balance in order to benefit the world, now and forever. Hopefully, when Nature is in harmony, our world will become a better living place.
In sum, the changes we need should be to save the planet. To to that, large-scale efforts around the world are required no later than the present century. Finally, a question waits to be answered : will the future generations in the next century praise our foresight and efforts, or will they look back in anger and dismay at what we once had and what we lost forever?
