Every four years, the dream of world peace is being relayed from country to country at the end of the celebration of Athens-originated and one of the most significant sport galas. But audiences’ excitement and pride soon faded away and was turned into desperation of regret when the length of cost bill is displayed.
The people’s doubt grows wider and wilder naturally at emergence of astonishing expenditure on the event. Millions of people are employed for the preparation and operation; massive related infra-structures are erected; even countless food, facilities and electricity are congregated. However, the debate was truly ignited when sympathy over the people in need is realized: resource at incredible quantity went to pure consumption instead of relieving the clans struggling for survival. The cost of involvement will inevitably worsen both the hosts’ and participants’ already-slim financial budget. And for the economically undeveloped members, it is doubtlessly much more painful to spare the fund for this “expensive party”.
However, that decent conclusion is just correct superficially. The reflection of a handful following questions will effectively dispel the haze of doubt, namely who are true payers of event cost; for what purpose they paid the cost; and what result is after the payment. Answering these questions will help us to hit the essence of issue. As a matter of fact, everyone is contributor. While athletes in contests appeal for the world peace and mutual understanding, the audiences buy tickets to enforce their voices in great number. Moreover, race discrimination once plunged the colored people into the abyss of pain, but now they are granted equal opportunities to compete with rivals from other parts of world. For nearly three thousand years, the waving Olympic flag has never failed to summon people’s passion to eliminate hostility between races and boundaries when their eyes are gathered on event at the same time.
Finally, it occurs to me that even though this “party” is magnificent in scale and expensive in resources, it is worth its true value. Isolation and discrimination will not suit well the irresistible trend of globalization and only communication with respect is only way leading human being to a true prosperity.
