  >As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual well-being. What are the factors that contribute to job satisfaction? How realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction for all workers? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Job satisfaction today seems related to the work-life harmony. Money is always the most important motivational factor for people to work, but many are also seeking a balance between work and life. In the present internet age, changing expectation is really the core issue which has changed the way we work and the way we live. Money being not the issue, some people have begun to think that working gets in the way of living, unless jobs are made more flexible and more worthwhile.

Flexible work arrangements make sense. Workers will feel happy about an opportunity to reduce stress, ease the pain and meet the objectives. The pace of work has sped up, and our expectation with it Take business correspondence, for instance. Only a few decades ago, we had weeks to respond. Once fax machines arrived, we needed days and hours to reply. Now we have got email and minutes to answer. In this case, job satisfaction is linked to a reduction of working hours, particularly in the developed countries. Furthermore, professional labor force may work in part from home, known as telecommuting. Having more time for family and for pleasure is part of job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction, however, comes because of hard work that pays off. Beyond such expectation, people enjoy work that is worthwhile. Of course, nothing worthwhile comes easily. Generally speaking, the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing. To achieve the work-life harmony, most people enjoy the kind of work for which they are best suited. They find happiness in jobs that not only will bring money but also demonstrate values and principles. They have pride in the work they do individually and collectively, and have healthy relationships with co-workers. Apart from that, they know what is expected of them. Thus, they feel rewarded, if given the tools, the training and the resources to get work done. When workers feel safe and comfortable both at work and at home, they also feel satisfied.

Despite all that, most people still have to continue working a major part of their adult life to live and make ends meet. Nevertheless, when possible, they tend to demand flexibility in work and struggle for successful achievements. In this changing labor market, more jobs are being lost than created because of the negative impact of modern technology. Just to be realistic for all workers, no satisfaction is greater than just having a stable job to spare them from boredom in life and need to feed a family.
