I was hoping that this book would give expert direction and advice on the specifics of how to handle all the different complex elements of a Forms to APEX conversion.
Instead, this is a competent overview of the steps involved in the conversion utility, with little, or no, expert advice on how to handle the advenced steps.
There is lots of detail on how the Forms converter utility works, but no real meat to the detail.
As an example, on page 99, discussing alerts, instead of giving specifics on the best way to handle alerts, there is a reference to the standard "Oracle Application Express Users Guide" saying "there's a section called Incorporation (of) Javascript into an Application" - not much help at all.
And again on the same (and following) page, referring to program units, there's just a passing reference to "Migration Help" documents and just when some advice on how to handle a "tree" is expected, we get:-
"This, of course, is a real advanced technique and has nothing to do with the Forms Converter. In this way (no explanation of which way), we can replicate the same functionality in our APEX Application. Of course, this is done post generation. You can learn how this is done in the APEX user and Developer Guides".
The reason I bought this book is for an expert to give hints, tips and examples of how to handle the advanced aspects.
Anyone can read the standard Oracle documentation, and I suggest that you don't waste your time and money - this book adds very little value.

Pieter Douwe van den Bos has done a terrific and difficult job writing this book..
If developpers try to convert "spagetti" Oracle Forms applications and not reading this book is simply an impossible task.

I've been reading about the subject and main thing I was looking for is converting existing Oracle Form applications to APEX. I found the Book titled "Oracle Application Express Forms Converter : A migration guide using the APEX" by Douwe Pieter van den Bos and proves to be very useful in the subject.
This book is not simply the Form Coversion Text book, it provide a great deal of background infomration starting from The Reasons for Coversion , which focuses on Functional Reasons and Technical Reasons. The Number Questions provided in the book are very valid.
Next it guides understanding the Logic of APEX applications and How the Form application will be coverted. This gives you guidelines on the Application Home pages and Navigations.
The Coversion Project Planning is the most important chapter of this book, which can saves a lot a time and resources if executed properly.
The Coversion Tool it self looks at coverting
Form Modules
Object Libraries
Form Menus
Report Files
PL/SQL Liberies
The way the steps are presented is very useful.
Lastly the book explains on Deployment and Implementation inlcuding guidelines for Training.
Conclusion: "Oracle Application Express Forms Converter : A migration guide using the APEX" by Douwe Pieter van den Bos is a great book for your Forms Coversion to APEX projects.
