Finding You: A feel-good love story set in Milan |
A feel good love story where sometimes first impressions can be very wrong ... Perfect for the fans of Miranda Dickenson and Paige Toon.
Valentina Harrison is a PA at an international advertising agency but when her boss disappears, James Spencer is flown in from the New York office to take over the helm.
James is handsome, successful and arrogant, Valentina is intelligent but, compared to the other fashionistas in her Milan office, rather plain and different. Because of this James treats her with contempt; needless to say Valentina can't stand him.
As their work brings them closer together, James and Valentina discover that first impressions can be wrong, so very wrong...

The best love story forever .I was so absorbed in it ,and I was moved by it deeply .All in all I like it very much .
I'm sorry, but this was truly dreadful. I was in the mood for a good romance and ended up disappointed and frustrated. For a start, the writing is appalling, very stilted and erratic with poor editing. Then there are the characters, basically all of whom acted irrationally and had wild mood swings, jumping to extreme anger at the smallest, lamest things - their reactions weren't even logical, which you could excuse in one character, but when all the characters are acting this way it simply points to poor storytelling. And while I'm on storytelling, the plot was exceptionally weak with the climactic moments being obvious long in advance.
I received an ARC of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I nearly stopped reading this book after 2 chapters, the writing was stilted and I guessed pretty early on that it had been translated from Italian. However I fancied the plot line so was determined to give it a little longer. I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed this book except for the poor translation. It was translated into written english okay but not into everyday 'spoken' english. The dialogue wasn't natural. Again I did enjoy the plot and either I overlooked the translation the further I got into the book or it became more natural.
Valentina is a hard-working woman who dresses plainly in order to blend in to her surroundings. When her new, handsome boss arrives, James completely writes her off. However, as they work together, he witnesses her competence and ability to ground him in stressful situations. I love how he starts to see beyond her looks and falls in love with her heart. The ending feels a little rushed, but overall I enjoyed the book.
Finding You is an interesting story, not too much dramatic and not too lighthearted.
It was an enjoyable quick read for me.
I've really appreciated the haters to lovers trope, the boss-assistant relationship and the italian background.
I was so happy to read Valentina and James story and see how they reach their well deserved Happily Ever After.
