For instance, the average couple spends $5,000 on engagement and wedding rings, making these pricey purchases largely because everyone else does. But what if you decided to spend $300 on rings and apply the rest to future date nights, weekend getaways, and thinking-of-you bouquets over the next ten years? In he long run, what would bring more joy to your marriage? Likewise, will owning a home with a pristine lawn and a two-car garage—the American Dream—really make you more satisfied? Or are you saving up for this investment just because financial planners tell you it’s worth it?
Vanderkam shows how each of us can figure out better ways to use what we have to build the lives we want. Drawing on the latest happiness research as well as the stories of dozens of real people, Vanderkam offers a contrarian approach that forces us to examine our own beliefs, goals, and values.

This is a great book for people that want to change their idea of money and earning money and saving money. The American culture is so used to spending money on everything and this book has really helped me change the way I look at buying things and really learning how to enjoy the money I have now. I'm 21 and this is a great book for people in college who are just starting to get into the real world of all the expenses and cost of living and fun adult things to do and it's great for people that are older that feel like they never have enough money to enjoy themselves. I'd definately recommend reading this!
I enjoyed this book a lot and I also liked 168 hours. I am a nosy person and it was fun to read about how other people spend their money. The general premise is not to save more but to earn more. It is different than most other personal finance books I have read (in a good way)
Laura Vanderkam is a master at helping people realize they have more than they think. Her last book, 168 Hours, did it for time. And now ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD does it for money. It's impossible to read this book and not rethink your relationship with money. I read it quickly, focusing on areas that speak to where I am in my life right now. But I have a feeling this will be one of those books that I turn to at different stages when I need a reminder of the ways that habits around money can affect mental well-being.
I really liked the book! While there was nothing revolutionary in it, it does encourage you to think about your own priorities. There are a lot of suggestions for you to consider how and where you may want to spend your money, but it's not written in a "preachy" or "this is the only right way" to do it.
I would recommend it highly.
